This faith formation is based on the hands-on style Montessori educational method. It uses a specialized room called an Atrium that is outfitted with hand-crafted items called materials or works designed especially to complement the child’s developmental stage and promote contemplation of our Catholic faith. Sessions in the Atrium are prayer experiences, divided into time for a 10-20 minute presentation of new material, and an hour or more to think, pray, and work with any material that’s already been introduced. For 2024/2025, volunteers at St. Luke offer Level I for 3-6 year-olds, and Level II for post-First Communion 3rd graders.
Atrium sessions begin September 11 for the 2024/2025 school year.
Sessions are held Wednesday nights from 5:45 to 7:15 PM for both levels.
The Atrium is located upstairs in the building next to the CYO fields. Access to the stairs can be found just past the doors to the downstairs classrooms.

Money to create the works in the St. Luke Atrium was provided by generous donations from the St. Luke Men’s Club. Materials for creating many of the works were given by the St. Luke Altar Society. The former moms group members and their families and extended families offered countless hours of talented work to hand make and collect the bulk of the items needed for presentations. A video tour is available on YouTube.
For 40 years, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd has had a governing body in the US, commonly referred to as CGS USA. Paid and volunteer staff help to provide necessary resources and training for catechists and atria across the country. Read more.
