C.A.L.M. strives to connect St. Luke’s moms in order to encourage faith and friendship among moms and their families and promote Catholic parenting through regular meetings and events. The group currently offers Kids’ Mass Prep, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd with a concurrent CALM Moms meeting and Family Nights.
Kids’ Mass Prep is for kids ages 0-5. They hear the following Sunday’s Gospel story, sing songs, do crafts and have a group activity to help them understand as much as possible. Moms also have the chance to share, giving their own insights to the readings. The annual All Saints/All Souls Day party is the highlight of the year.
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a 60 year-old faith formation program that is Montessori based. The idea is to create a space in which children ages 3-6 can fall in love with God, learn prayer language to vocalize that love, and have time to wonder about the gifts God has given us. The Atrium, or classroom, is open every other Monday from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Moms meet on their own, or with children younger than 3, while their older children are in the Atrium and/or at school. Agenda for the meetings varies, including regular business, discussions on the Sunday readings and insightful Catholic parenting books, planning for Kids' Mass Prep, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd and a new website the group hopes to launch this year.
The group hosts Family Nights once a month on Friday evenings. Dinner, babysitting, family prayer, and planned discussions/activities for those evenings will seek to foster the domestic church our families are meant to be. Upcoming meetings will be announced in the bulletin.
